Where is SoNew?

Map of USA highlighting Southern New EnglandWhen people think of New England, they don’t always think of Southern New England. In fact, the majority of international tours start and end in Boston, and loop through the states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

But there’s a second, less explored, route through New England. The corridor between New York and Boston, that takes you through Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. We’re out to make that a nationally- and internationally-recognized destination – adding a second route option for New England devotees everywhere.

All of Southern New England. presented in a way that’s so new.
That’s so-new.org

The site you see is the first phase of the SoNew effort, with daily recommendations on finding worthwhile weekend fun. As SoNew develops, you can expect more original thinking:

  • An ability to connect area attractions by interest, not just by local geography, to help visitors create personalized vacations.
  • Unique features, including self-guided tours with signage that employs QR codes to allow visitors to access short videos.
  • More video content that goes beyond standard listings in helping visitors to determine the best places to visit, stay and eat.
  • An expansion of our guided SoNew Discovery Tours, which helps visitors to explore our region via periodic coach bus tours.

SoNew is the creation of Peter Glankoff (former marketing director of both Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium), Bob Billington (director of the Blackstone Valley (RI) Tourism Council),and Matt Caspari, partner and creative director of Caspari McCormick, a Wilmington, DE-based marketing firm whose long-standing involvement in Southern New England tourism includes the creation of mystic.org.

It is our sincere objective to lift all boats within the Southern New England area. We welcome suggestions on unique area events; will post listings on the best places to visit, to stay and to eat, free of charge; and will share content and welcome reciprocal links with area Destination Marketing Organizations.

If you’ve got an attraction or business you’d like to see on so-new.org, can be supportive of the effort functionally or financially, or have thoughts on the region you’d like to share, we’d like to open up a dialog. Contact us.
