Chinese New Year Celebration

If you don’t want to wait until January 1, 2019 to experience the kind of fun you had last New Year’s, there’s an alternative – The Chinese Year of the Dog is nearly here. And Mohegan Sun has some festivities so authentic, they’re posted on their website in Chinese (sometimes without translation.)

Don't miss the "Fortune God" at The Shops concourse in Casino of the Sky for the special red envelope giveaway from noon - 2pm. There will be photo opportunities with the "Fortune God" and winners of the 2017 Miss Chinese Beauty Pageant. Demonstrations of Chinese cultural crafts such as calligraphy and paper-cutting will take place in The Shops concourse during the same time.

If you’d still like to get in the spirit after, the traditional Lion Dance will tour the Mohegan property at 2 pm, heading from Sunrise Square and making its way through The Shops at Mohegan Sun. (The Lion Dance has long symbolized the exorcising of evil spirits and the summoning of luck and fortune, which may be why it then wends its way through the Casino of the Sky and Casino of the Wind.)  Afterwards you might want to enjoy a meal at Sunrise Square, which will be decorated for the occasion and features genuine Asian dishes located in the Autumn section of Casino of the Earth.
