Providence Children's Film Festival
There are film festivals the world over for adult audiences, but how many cater to kids – let alone show their works? The Providence Children’s Film Festival (PCFF, for short) does just that. This year's festival takes place February 16 through February 25, 2018.
The annual festival takes place at three venues within walking distance of downtown Providence (Avon Cinema (260 Thayer St.); Gilder Center for the Arts – Wheeler School ( 228 Angell St.); and RISD Museum Metcalf Auditorium (20 North Main St.) Days are full of of screenings, film-making workshops, and free activities, along with post-film conversations that help deepen the film-watching experience and foster critical thinking skills. There’s also the annual Youth Filmmaker Showcase, which nurtures and promotes the work of young filmmakers from around the world.
Opening night tickets are $20 adults/$12 youth; typical film screenings are $10 adults/$8 child and seniors, although there are some free events at both the RISD museum and at four Providence area public libraries. Regardless of what you pay, it’s advisable to book tickets in advance online when they come available in mid-January (there’s a small service charge, but it avoids the possibility of not being able to get a ticket at the door). Visit www.pcffri.org for tickets and full details.
