Seal Watch Cruise

When the weather in Maine gets a bit nippy even for seals, they take a winter vacation around Fishers Island in the Long Island Sound. And if winter in New London isn’t too daunting for you, you can nip over by boat and say hello.

Project Oceanology runs these tours from March to the end of April. You board Project O's Enviro-lab boat in Groton, and you’re off on a 2 ½ hour tour to the popular winter seal haunts. The cabin on the boat is heated (and hot chocolate and cookies are provided), but it’s best to wear deck shoes or boots and very warm clothing for the trip, as you’ll be glued to the deck railing when the seals come in view. Tickets are $35 adults; $25 kids 6-12. Bring your camera and binoculars. Reservations are required.

If you can’t make the March 3rd tour, the Enviro-Lab boat also sets sail March 10 (at 10am) and March 17 (at 3pm.) Call for reservations 860-445-9007 or book tickets at
