Nautical Family Overnight at Battleship Cove

So you’re thinking the kids could use an edifying historical experience? Maybe an overnight getaway? Something not too expensive?

How about an overnight in a real Navy bunk at Battleship Cove?

Located on scenic Mt. Hope Bay in Fall River, MA, Battleship Cove harbors the largest collection of preserved US Navy ships in the world, with five historic landmarks that include the Battleship USS Massachusetts.  You get to explore every nook and cranny of the entire Battleship Cove fleet, learning what a sailor’s life was like from friendly veterans who know first hand. This special edition of the museum's overnight camping program's theme is "Retro Comic Book Overnight", which includes Captain America, Batman and Superman as comic book heroes in World War II, full of comic-themed activities on board the battleship. After an action-packed day of activities, it’s time to bunk down in an actual bunk – if the kids aren’t too excited to sleep.

In the morning, you awake to reverie and a breakfast – included in the price of your stay.

Parents who’ve done the overnight express amazement at just how much kids love the experience – the Battleship Cove website is replete with testimonials, including one from a father who was awakened at 5 am by his seven-year-old son, wondering if they could do it again. By bed and breakfast standards, it’s outstanding value – from just $65 per person (Friday nights) and $69 per person, Saturday nights.

Overnights may fill quickly (the reason they exist at all is by popular demand from families of kids who did scouting or school overnights) but happily there are several weekends to choose from: besides April 20, overnights are also scheduled for April 6 and May 11.
