BRT Summer Solstice Festival

BRT stands for Blackstone River Theatre, a neat little cultural arts center that’s dedicated to preserving the Blackstone Corridor’s traditional arts, and is known for their quality performances. So it won’t surprise you that, even when removed from their usual cozy venue (the theater is located at 549 Broad Street, Cumberland) they still put on quite a show.

This is the 8th year for the annual Summer Solstice Festival, which runs all day (11:00 AM to 7:00 PM) at Diamond Hill Park. It features five entertainment stages plus 40 food and craft vendors. Performing this year will be Atwater-Donnelly Trio, Mari Black Celtic Band, Daymark Kevin Doyle Dance Showcase, Eastern Medicine SingersThe Gnomes, The Gothard Sisters, La Croisée D'Antan, Emerald Rae Owen Marshall & Jenna Moynihan, and Tir Na Nog Irish Dance Torrin Ryan, Sheila Falls & Kyle Forsthoff.

Admission at the gate is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $5 for children, and free for children under 5.  Rain date is June 17. If you can’t make it on Saturday, there are plenty of chances to get in on the act(s) by attending a BRT show at the theater coming up this summer. Rick Massimo, Music Editor of the Providence Journal says "The Blackstone River Theatre may be the best place to see a show in Rhode Island" and award-winning blues artist Duke Robillard has pronounced it " of the greatest venues to hear live music in this country."
