Newport Secret Garden Tours

The mansions of Newport are world-famous, but the gardens are something to see, too. And June 15th through the 17th, you’ll get your chance – with the Spring Secret Garden Tour.

The gardens you’ll see are, as the name implies, a secret, at least until you check in at the ticket office desk at 32 Washington Street. Once there, you will be given a program with a map and directions to each of the gardens. Up to 12 are included on the tour, all within walking distance of the starting point. The tour is self-guided, with hosts and hostesses meeting you at the entrance of each garden.

There’s no rush. Gardens are open 10 AM to 5 PM each day (June 15-17), and the gardens you don’t see on day one can be viewed later. There are plenty of nice stops for refreshments on Thames Street, and parks if you’d rather bag your lunch. The pace is very relaxed.

100% of the proceeds of the Garden Tours benefit Rhode Island public school art, music, dance and theater programs. Tickets may be purchased for $25 on the day of the tour or $20 in advance. Little ones and school-aged youngsters can accompany you on the tour free of charge. Park at the Visitor’s Center and head to the Ticket Office from there. It’s a rain or shine event, so be prepared!
