Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous
It’s easy to take Mystic Seaport, America’s premier maritime museum, for granted. But for the 43rd Anniversary of Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous, it seems an appropriate time for a mention.
Antique & Classic brings some of the most outstanding antique boats in the country together on the weekend of July 28-29. Even if you’re not a boat expert, you’ll appreciate what you’re seeing – approximately 35 classic cruisers, sailboats and runabouts, all in pristine condition. You’ll have plenty of time to admire them along the Museum’s waterfront (Saturday hours: 9 am-5 pm; Sunday 9 am-12:30 pm) before they take to the water for a downriver parade on Sunday. An award competition will recognize excellence in restoration, authenticity, and workmanship. Tickets are $28.95 adults (18-64); $26.95 seniors (65+) $18.95 youth (ages 4-14); and children 3 and younger are free. Second day admission is free if you buy a full-price ticket.
This year features vessels designed by John G. Alden. After apprenticing under Starling Burgess and B.B. Crowninshield, he opened his own office in 1909 and he went on to design over 900 vessels ranging from small dinghies to power vessels to his famous Malabar racing schooners.
