The Great Salt Pond Swim 4
If you’ve always thought swimming in open water would be fun, but have never had the courage to try (or have had the good sense not to try it alone), here’s your answer. Join up to 150 other adventurers swimming the Great Salt Pond in Block Island on July 28.
This is the 4th Annual Great Salt Pond Swim, a fundraiser to protect this Block Island treasure. While it’s a perfect introduction for first-time open water swimmers (it’s not small, so don’t think your typical pond), it’s definitely an event for swimmers who can go the distance: a half mile out and a half mile back. The waters are protected, so you won’t find a lot of chop to impede your progress. This is not a race — strength and stamina are more important than speed for this swim.
The event is sponsored by the Committee for the Great Salt Pond and goes off at 11:00 a.m. (last registration, provided there is still space left is at 10:15am.) Cost is $55 per person and participation is limited to 150 swimmers, so you may want to sign up early. Get a Swim Participant Packet and more information on the website and visit their Facebook page for more info.
