Newport Antiques Show Gala

If you’re the type of person who watches Antiques Roadshow on PBS, we have a couple weekend activities for you coming up this weekend in Newport.

First, for those who know a good thing when they see it, there’s the 2018 Newport Antiques Show. Since 2007, it’s been one of the nation’s premier antiques venues presenting a wide selection of important Americana antiques. Over forty of the country’s top dealers present paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts. Show Manager Diana H. Bittel, a distinguished antiques dealer and annual exhibitor herself, hand selects each dealer.

The show actually runs the entire weekend through Sunday, July 29 – with a number of different lectures each day, which are free with your General Admission ticket: $15 for one day; $20 for the weekend. If you’re a real, real fan – a Gala Preview Party takes place on Friday the 27th from 6 pm to 9 pm, which runs $100 for Young Friends and $150 per ticket for Patrons ($175 at the door.)

If you’d like to see how the other (poorer, but just as artsy) half lives, try the Providence Flea (on the Providence River Greenway, 345 South Water Street, Providence; 401 484 7783; www.providenceflea.com). It’s a juried flea market with cool vendors, food trucks, local musicians and more. Held every summer weekly on Sundays, rain or shine, from 10 am - 4 pm through September 9.
