South County Hot Air Balloon Festival
Yankee Magazine calls the South County Balloon Festival one of the Top 20 summer events in Rhode Island. And no wonder. It’s three days (July 20, 21, & 22) of colorful hot air balloons flying around the skies of southern Rhode Island. You and your posse can even take a “ride” in a tethered balloon for $20 per person. (Balloon flights, tethered or not, depend on weather conditions.)
There’s typically around 14 hot air balloons at the festival. But there’s always much more. Back by popular demand, Bwana Jim’s Wildlife Show and The Flying Cortes, which have been entertaining circus audiences for generations with their twisting, spinning, and somersaulting capabilities. Carnival rides and games, fireworks (July 21 at 9pm), Lon Cerel; Comedy & Balloon Sculpture performance, kiddie train rides, rock climbing wall, a Car Show and more. The Mixed Breed Band is one of the featured live musical guests.
Admission is $10 per adult, children 10 and under are free. It all takes place at the University of Rhode Island athletic fields in Kingston from 4pm on Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday.
