The Vikings Begin
Mystic Seaport has always been a center for maritime history, with a collection that centers on 19th century New England. But their latest exhibit goes a bit further afield, and a whole lot further back in time – like to Sweden in the 7th century. The Vikings Begin is a truly unique exhibit, with priceless artifacts from one of the world’s finest early Viking-age collections. Many of the helmets, shields, weapons, glass and other precious treasures included are making their international debut, and have never left their home in the Gustavianum Museum of Uppsala University in Sweden. The exhibit includes thematic sections on Viking warfare, a ship burial, Norse gods, and more, employing rare archaeological finds to illuminate how the Vikings lived more than a millennium ago.
The Vikings Begin remains at the Collins Gallery through September 30 only, so don’t wait too long to visit. General admission to Mystic Seaport is $26.05 for adults (tax exempt) if you book online; $24.25 for seniors 65+ and $17.05 for kids ages 4-14.
