Jack O'Lantern Spectacular

It’s not the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. It’s thousands of them. Row after row of carved, illuminated pumpkins make the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular a great way to get in the spirit of Halloween, starting at the very beginning of October.

The Roger Williams Zoo in Providence has been hosting this festive event since 1988, and its popularity continues to grow. The creativity and intricacy of the carving is a treat to behold. Recent years have featured creative takes on the movies Titanic and Lord of the Rings. This year's theme is titled "American Treasures," which will feature a celebration of our nation's history and culture through postage stamps.

The Pumpkin Trail is open every evening from October 4 through November 4, rain or shine, with tickets available from 6:00pm to 11:00pm (the trail closes at 10:30pm.) On Saturdays, the trail stays open one hour later. Prices range from $15 for adults, $12 for children (ages 2-12) Monday through Thursday and $18 for adults, $15 for children Friday through Sunday. Under two are free. For more information on the festival or the Zoo in general, visit their website at
