Valentine’s in Provincetown
We know, we know. You were thinking a Valentine’s getaway would be nice, but planning time just got away from you. So what’s the furthest away you can get in the SoNew region – and one of the most romantic places as well?
The answer is Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod, which is pleasantly crazed in the summer, but beautifully laid-back in the winter. The dream rooms you can’t book in the summer are mostly available in February, and you can discover what the fireplaces are for. Not everything is open, but P-town (unlike some beach destinations) is a real town, so you won’t be begging for a decent restaurant, shops that are open, or even a little entertainment if you want it –PAMM (the Provincetown Art Association and Museum) is open, for example, and Waters Edge Cinema (the art house cinema that runs the Provincetown International Film Festival every June) may have a show. As for where to choose for home base, it seems unfair to pick favorites here (P-town itself is always a treat), but for our money, you can’t go wrong with the Lands End Inn (the charmingly bohemian 18-room inn that sits on top of Gull Hill in the West End and commands nice ocean views) and a trip to Namaste Spa (tons of treatments, which last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, and can be combined with a sauna pass – 14 Johnson Street, www.namastespaptown.com)
