Hyannis Open Streets
Hyannis is a nice place to visit regardless of when you come, but its even nicer when its streets are closed to cars, and turned over to walkers, bikers, dancers and people who just feel like taking the whole thing in. That’s what happens a handful of times a year during Hyannis Open Streets.
May 19 is one of the designated days (the others are in the fall – September 22 and October 27.) From noon-5pm, Main Street is closed and all sorts of fun takes over: there’s music everywhere, face painting in a variety of locations, even talks at the Hyannis Public Library and dance lessons. Every Open Streets is a little different, with dozens of local business and civic organizations participating, but the feeling is always the same: a whole town enjoying itself. See the website for details.
Open Streets is a free event, and increasingly popular (which is saying something given the first Open Streets event attracted an estimated 7000 people.)
