Slater Park and Looff Carousel
Slater Park has a bit of everything, from a small petting zoo to paddle boats to walking trail to a playground the kids will like. But the highlight of the park is undoubtedly the Looff Carousel, built by craftsman Charles I.D. Looff in 1895, that has resided at the park since 1910.
The Looff Carousel contains handcrafted ponies, but also a menagerie of other animals – three dogs, a lion, a camel and a giraffe. The National Carousel Association recently gave it the NCA Historic Award.
Also in the Park is Daggett House, the oldest building in Pawtucket, built in 1685. It has been lovingly restored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, who sometimes open it for tours.
