Cape Rep Theater
Cape Cod is known more for it’s spectacular National Seashore than for its theatre community, but Cape Rep is out to change that – a community-driven theater in a charming location that is growing increasingly popular with visitors and Boston residents visiting their second homes on the Cape.
Cape Rep Theatre is an artist-driven company that draws on Cape Cod residents, while inviting professionals from the wider world of theater to work with them. It performs a mix of established familiar works, mixed with new works, often written by local playwrights.
Performances are staged indoors and out, with a 4- to 5-show Indoor Season running May to December, and an Outdoor Season dedicated to professional shows for children in the summer. Indoor performances take place in a 129-seat historic structure within Nickerson State Park, on the grounds of what was formerly Camp Monomoy. Cape Rep is constantly growing– thus far they have rehabbed the Camp’s Dining Hall, then reclaimed the historic Crosby Cape House (restoring it into housing for both local and visiting artists with space for rehearsing, performing and teaching classes in acting, directing and playwriting) and they are actively working to restore the Crosby Barn, which will be used to expand their programming space.
