Blues at Chan’s
Chan’s is, in many ways, a typical Chinese restaurant, offering everything from Wonton Soup to Moo Goo Gai Pan. But while the food is good enough to have been voted Best Chinese Restaurant by The Call, that’s not what makes it a well-known local (and more than local) draw.
For over 40 years, Chan’s has served up world-class jazz and blues along with its egg rolls. Owner John Chan added music to the menu when he began managing his family restaurant back in 1977, and the number of blues greats who have passed through the doors in amazing: sax great Greg Abate, drummer Steve Smith, Guitar Shorty, pianist Mose Allison. Dizzy Gillespie celebrated his 70th birthday here. Get tickets for the weekend’s lineup by visiting the website.
Chan’s has received an R.I. Pell Award, an induction in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, and a rating as “Best Place to Dine Over Music” from Rhode Island Monthly Magazine.
